Breaking the Capacity Barrier The hunger for increased mobile bandwidth is driving the rollout of new 4G access technologies, primarily WiMAX and LTE. These are driving extremely high Ethernet backhaul bandwidths, with growth of 10 to 100 times the existing backhaul requirements. At the same time, backhaul spectrum is becoming more scarce, and in many regions more expensive. These two combined factors, will quickly exhaust current backhaul networks, and will make existing technologies uneconomical, and inadequate to deliver the required capacity. In order to backhaul these emerging 4G access technologies, new Microwave technologies must be considered.
